United Nations: International Office for Migration
Co-Funding Mechanism

CASE STUDY

Oh yeah, don’t mind us over here – we’ve just casually got a working relationship with the United Nations. No biggie. (Obviously a massive biggie).

The brief

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) works to ensure the dignity, safety and protection of people in the most challenging crisis response contexts in the world.

Our ongoing collaborations with IOM have spanned projects for country offices in Switzerland, Thailand and Somalia — with each brief designed to communicate complex programs in clear, accessible and visually engaging ways.

Recently, we worked with IOM Somalia on a fundraising program designed to match community-raised funds for local public goods and services — a project that required careful adaptation across multiple audiences and languages.

Our Approach

Working consistently with two incredible artists, illustrator Lee Arkapaw and animator Clem Stamation, we’ve been engaged by the Swiss, Thai and Somalian branches of the International Organization for Migration (UN) – the leading intergovernmental organisation whose mission is to make migration work for all.

The workflow involved scripting, storyboarding, illustration, animation, translation, voiceover work and soundscape development, with subtle differences in the language and content required for different audiences. These small changes had a flow on impact for the voiceover timing, so the whole process required extra careful attention and care. As part of this project, we also developed an information booklet and a website, which leveraged the beautiful illustrative style Lee had developed for the animation.
