Yarra Ranges Regional Museum
Creative Learning Program

CASE STUDY

A crisp winter week in the Yarra Ranges, four brilliant artists, and plenty of creative licence—some briefs really are dream briefs.

The brief

To support the launch of its new Creative Learning Program, the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum (YRRM) brought us on board to produce a suite of snappy educational films.

The program – designed to engage primary school students through object-based learning and hands-on creativity – featured four Victorian artists: Brooke Wandin, Beci Orpin, Jess Harris and Spiri Tsintziras.

Their subject matter, drawn from the rich collections at YRRM and the cultural, built and natural world of the region, span a range of subject areas including First Nations culture, history, visual arts, geography, and food production.

Our role was to create four artist-led films that would anchor the program’s digital resources and reflect the spirit of the region. With the brief wide open in terms of creative direction, we had the rare opportunity to shape the look, feel and storytelling style of each film from the ground up.

Our Approach

We wanted each film to reflect the artist behind it, while stitching in the sights, sounds and stories of the Yarra Ranges. We had enormous fun picking the brains of these amazing artists, working together to co-design each distinct visual style as we sketched colour palettes, camera moves and moments that spoke to their practice. The final films draw from each artist’s craft to create something distinct and personal. From fern-draped gullies to cosy studio corners, we shot across the Yarra Ranges to keep the texture of place alive on-screen.

This project was a joy from start to finish: an opportunity to stretch creatively, work with inspiring collaborators, and spotlight the vibrancy of learning outside the classroom. The result? Four bite-sized films brimming with regional character—ready to inspire curiosity far beyond the classroom.
