National Museum of Australia |
Brand photography for the Tim & Gina Fairfax Discovery Centre

CASE STUDY

When the National Museum of Australia approached us to take the core brand photography for their spanking new children’s gallery, the Tim and Gina Fairfax Discovery Centre, we were there (in Canberra, that is) in a nation’s heartbeat.

The brief

Being a brand new space, the team at NMA where really keen to capture some strong visuals that could be used in a variety of ways. Our goal was to create a dynamic suite of images that captured the spirit of the space in action — babies in the play area, families exploring together, kids immersed in creativity and discovery.

Our Approach

Shoots like this are our happy place: balancing logistics, technical detail and creative spontaneity in a shiny new museum space. We thrive on the challenge of working with children on camera, and always pull out all our tricks (and Dad jokes) to keep things fun and relaxed. Our signature snapshots are always a mix of natural, joyful responses and big expressions.

Our team approached this one with two photographers and a producer including site recces to plan shot compositions, angles, and timing to suit our tiny talent. In our books, a good shot should feel spontaneous - like a fleeting moment of wonder that a photographer just happened to be there to capture. But the proof, especially when it comes to kids on camera, is always in the planning. We always come to set with a strong sense of what we are there to create, and work hard to find that magic moment.

We love how these images turned out; a vibrant suite that reflects the creativity, warmth and energy of the space. It was an absolute joy to collaborate with the NMA team.
